Eanna District, Ancient Uruk, Warka, Iraq
The Eanna ("House of Heaven") District is one of the two districts in the city of Uruk. This district was dedicated to Inanna, the goddess of love and war, who was a popular deity of Uruk (Complex Religion). The Anu District was dedicated to her father, “Anu”, the sky god. The Eanna District was walled off from the rest of the city, supposedly to give Inanna privacy and protection (Public Works). Although she occupies several temples and buildings within other cities, her main sanctuary is in the Eanna District in Uruk.
