Ziggurat Etemenanki (Tower of Babel), Ancient Babylon, Al-Hillah, Iraq
The Etemenanki Ziggurat, is also commonly referred to as the “Tower of Babel”. The ziggurat was built of bricks and tiles, and above lay a shrine dedicated to the god Marduk, the chief god of Babylon (Complex Religion). The Etemenanki Ziggurat (Tower of Babel) is well known for its appearance in the biblical Book of Genesis. Supposedly, the Etemenanki Ziggurat is the most significant ziggurat in Ancient Mesopotamia among those currently discovered, as well one of the largest (Urban Center).
